DHAKA, March 5, 2026 (BSS) - Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has emphasized transparency, accountability, and effective supervision in the education system.

He said the foundation for the development of Bangladesh’s education system and institutional accountability had been laid during the tenure of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, said an official handout.

The minister made these remarks while addressing a meeting with officials of the Directorate of Inspection and Audit (DIA) at its conference.

Milon said during his tenure, President Ziaur Rahman introduced a 50 percent salary increase for teachers and initiated an audit system to ensure financial transparency in educational institutions.

Through these initiatives, a strong foundation of discipline and accountability was established in education administration, he said.

The minister hoped the country’s education sector would move forward in a more practical and progressive manner under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the son of Ziaur Rahman.

He said the global situation is highly challenging, with economic pressures, energy shortages, and various uncertainties being witnessed worldwide.

In this context, he said government offices must operate with efficiency and austerity in line with government directives.

He mentioned measures such as car-sharing for official activities, prudent use of electricity, and maintaining air-conditioner temperatures at prescribed levels to save power and energy.

Addressing officials of DIA, the minister said their role is extremely important in preventing corruption and irregularities in the education system.

Ensuring supervision and accountability is one of the most sacred responsibilities of the Ministry of Education, he said.

He urged the officials to perform their duties with honesty and dedication.

The minister said an initiative has been taken to introduce a ranking system for schools and colleges to improve the quality of educational institutions and create a competitive environment.

Under this system, indicators will be determined based on the quality of education, management, learning environment, and academic results of institutions.

During the meeting, he also instructed officials to submit written reports detailing their responsibilities and activities.

He stressed that collective efforts are essential for improving the education system.
