DHAKA, March 4, 2026 (BSS) - Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher Sumon today said no leniency would be shown to officials responsible for causing public suffering, while assuring full support from the ministry to those who work with honesty and dedication.
"Utmost importance must be given to ensuring that citizens are not forced to visit offices repeatedly to receive services," he told a views exchange meeting with officials at the conference room of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) in the capital today.
The minister said people come to RAJUK with their needs, not to seek favors. "No file should be kept pending unnecessarily. Every task must be completed within the stipulated timeframe," he said.
The Public Works Minister further said that there are many complaints among the general public regarding RAJUK. "Prolonged delays in file processing, harassment in obtaining services, irregularities and unnecessary complications have tarnished our image. This situation must be changed, and it must be changed now," he added.
State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahammad Sohel Monzoor, Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam and RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md. Riazul Islam, among others, were present at the meeting organized by RAJUK.
Addressing the officials, State Minister Ahammad Sohel said the government wants to transform RAJUK into a people-friendly institution free from corruption and harassment.
RAJUK Members Mohammad Bashirul Haque Bhuiyan, Sheikh Matiar Rahman and Mohammad Zahirul Islam, along with other officials, were also present at the meeting.
Prior to the discussion, Chief Town Planner Md. Ashraful Islam presented RAJUK's ongoing activities and future work plans.
