Telecom minister visits BTCL Staff College, Satellite Ground Station

GAZIPUR, March 3, 2026 (BSS) - Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam today visited the Telecom Staff College of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) and the satellite ground station of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited here.

During the visit, he exchanged views with the concerned officials. Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Abdun Naser Khan was present on the occasion, said a ministry press release.

Addressing the officials of the Telecom Staff College, Fakir Mahbub Anam, also Minister for Science and Technology, said the unused land of the training centre could be turned into a revenue-generating establishment for the government if utilized in a planned manner. 

He directed them to prepare a realistic project proposal promptly without hampering ongoing training activities.

Cautioning that government assets should not be kept unused, he emphasized the need for prior planning. He said necessary steps are being taken to address the shortage of engineers and urged the concerned officials to work with due responsibility.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdun Naser Khan said the training centre would not be confined to government courses only but would be opened for both public and private participants. 

He added that initiatives would be taken in collaboration with relevant institutions to introduce internationally certified courses.

The secretary further said a clear action plan must be submitted within the next 180 days, including course introduction, modernization and necessary project proposals, with the sole objective of developing the Telecom Staff College into a centre of excellence.

At the meeting, officials apprised the minister of ongoing activities, future plans and measures taken to improve service quality.

At the outset of the meeting, the minister inaugurated a basic training course for newly recruited employees of the Posts and Telecommunications Division.

After visiting the Telecom Staff College, the minister inspected the satellite ground station of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited in Gazipur, where he planted a sapling.

Senior officials of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited were present during the visit.
