DHAKA, March 3, 2026 (BSS) – The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Tuesday held a coordination meeting focusing on the security of banks and shopping malls, control of adulterated food and commodity prices, and traffic management in the Dhaka metropolitan area during the holy month of Ramadan.
The meeting was held at the DMP Headquarters conference room this morning with DMP Acting Commissioner Md. Sarwar in the chair, according to a press release.
Addressing the meeting, the Acting Commissioner said traffic congestion in the capital intensifies during Iftar in Ramadan.
To ensure city dwellers can reach their destinations on time and break their fast peacefully, additional forces led by senior DMP officers are working alongside members of the Traffic and Crime Divisions, he said.
“They are breaking their fast on the road to keep traffic movement uninterrupted,” he said.
He added that regular eviction drives are being conducted against illegal occupants of sidewalks and roads, while traffic police are taking special measures to prevent battery-powered rickshaws from entering bus routes.
Relevant DMP units are also working to prevent social media-based crimes and cybercrime during the holy month, he also said.
Expressing optimism, he said Ramadan would conclude in a peaceful and orderly manner with the cooperation of all.
DMP Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md. Nazrul Islam said that as of the 13th day of fasting, no major untoward incidents had been reported in Dhaka city.
“If we can spend the remaining days of fasting peacefully like this, we will be able to celebrate Eid beautifully,” he said.
He urged business leaders to bring shops, markets and commercial establishments under CCTV surveillance to strengthen law and order and assist police in crime prevention.
Sarwar also requested them to contact the nearest police station or the national emergency service number 999 in case of any emergency.
He further encouraged businesspersons to use DMP escort services for transporting cash and valuables during Ramadan.
Among others present at the meeting were Additional Police Commissioner (Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime) Md. Masud Karim, Additional Police Commissioner (DB) Md. Shafiqul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Anisur Rahman, along with DMP joint police commissioners, deputy police commissioners, police officers of various ranks, business representatives and representatives of different organizations.
