DNCC to conduct mosquito control drives three times daily

DHAKA, March 3, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has decided to conduct mosquito control operations three times a day across its designated areas following an increase in mosquito infestation.

To further strengthen and intensify the anti-mosquito drive, the city corporation has formed special Quick Response Teams (QRTs) to tackle hotspot areas.

Since assuming office, DNCC Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan has prioritized mosquito control and taken initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of the programme.

Under his directive, the citywide operations have been reorganized, and the revised schedule came into effect today (Tuesday).

According to an official letter signed by DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, larviciding activities will be carried out in the morning to destroy mosquito larvae.

Besides afternoon and evening drives, fogging operations will also be conducted at night in designated areas, considering the peak mosquito activity period.

Through region-based three-phase daily operations, DNCC aims to curb mosquito breeding and prevent their spread more effectively.

The mosquito control drive will continue even on weekly holidays.

All concerned health officials have been instructed to remain present in the field and regularly supervise area-based teams to ensure proper implementation of the programme.

Special drives have already begun in identified hotspot areas under the supervision of QRTs.

Updated lists of drains, sewerage lines, water bodies and canals identified as breeding grounds of Culex mosquitoes are being prepared, and necessary measures are being taken accordingly.

The DNCC is giving the highest priority to the prevention of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.

Necessary directives have been issued to ensure the presence and accountability of mosquito control workers as per the schedule, alongside strengthened field-level monitoring.

City residents have been urged to keep their homes, rooftops, balconies and surrounding areas clean, ensure proper waste management and prevent water stagnation.

The authorities also sought active cooperation from all citizens in eliminating mosquito breeding sites.
