Preparatory meeting held to ensure safe train journey during Eid festival

DHAKA, March 2, 2026 (BSS)- A preparatory meeting was held on various issues, including maintaining law and order, preventing sabotage and ticket black marketing,  ensuring smooth and comfortable rail journey for people heading home on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam addressed the meeting as chief guest held at Rail Bhaban here with Ministry of Railways Secretary Md. Fahimul Islam in the chair.

State Ministers Habibur Rashid and Md Rajib Ahsan were present as special guests. 

Besides, Bangladesh Railway Director General Md. Afzal Hossain and senior officials of the Ministry were present in the meeting.

In the meeting, Rabiul Alam gave necessary directives to the concerned to ensure a safe, smooth and comfortable Eid journey for the passengers.

The meeting decided to continue selling 25 percent standing tickets than the reserved seats on trains during the Eid journey like before. 

However, the minister instructed the concerned to ensure that no passenger with standing ticket gets the opportunity to travel in AC compartments or first-class seats.

It was decided to operate the required number of mobile courts to identify ticketless passengers, prevent ticket black marketing and prevent travel on the roof of trains. 

In addition, instructions were given to the concerned to take necessary measures to ensure that no ticketless passenger, especially at Kamalapur and Dhaka Airport stations, enters the compartments. 

It was decided to increase the number of seats allocated for waiting passengers to sit in safe places on the platform in case of delay in the departure of a train.
