DHAKA, March 1, 2026 (BSS) - The Directorate of Inspection and Audit (DIA) under the Ministry of Education has published inspection and audit reports of 973 educational institutions, recommending the recovery of nearly Tk 90 crore misappropriated through various irregularities.

The reports were prepared based on investigations conducted from July 1 to December 31, 2025, said a press release signed by DIA Director Professor M M Shahidul Islam today.

Over the past six months, DIA teams carried out on-site inspections in educational institutions across different districts and found evidence of forged certificates, fake appointments and various financial irregularities.

The published reports identified irregularities including forged or fake certificates, unacceptable certificates, fake recruitment, direct embezzlement of funds and financial irregularities related to VAT and income tax.

The DIA recommended that a total of Tk 89,82,25,607 be returned to the government treasury. It also suggested taking necessary measures to recover 176.523 acres of illegally occupied land belonging to the institutions.

The list of reports has been published on the Directorate's official website.

Copies of the inspection reports have been sent via email to the respective education directorates, education boards, district education offices, and the chairpersons of the governing bodies and heads of the concerned institutions.

The institutions which have not received the report can collect it from the respective district education office. Alternatively, they may apply on the institution's letterhead and send an email request to the designated address, and the report will be resent within three working days.

It was also stated that there is no need for anyone to visit the Directorate in person to collect the report.

Talking to BSS, DIA Joint Director Professor Md Idris Ali said such strict measures have been taken to ensure transparency and accountability in the education sector.

"In the last six months, our inspection teams conducted on-site investigations in 973 educational institutions across the country. During the investigations, teachers' registration certificates and BEd and other important certificates were identified as forged or fake," he said.

He added that the Directorate has recommended to the Ministry of Education that strict action be taken against the teachers involved. The ministry will take a final decision against the accused after conducting hearings.
