SYLHET, Feb 28, 2026 (BSS)-Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury today said that the 'Probashi Card' (Expatriate Card) for Bangladeshi workers will be launched very soon in accordance with the government's election manifesto.
The minister also disclosed that steps will be taken to regularize the status of approximately 25,000 undocumented Bangladeshis currently residing in Spain.
"Under our 180-day priority programme, following the guidelines set by our Prime Minister, we are taking measures to reopen closed labour markets — particularly in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and other countries where labour migration has been suspended," Ariful Haque said.
He made these remarks while briefing journalists on various issues at Sylhet Circuit House, according to a PID handout.
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said the market for daily essential commodities remains stable and expressed confidence that stability would be maintained in the coming days.
Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury noted that flooding in the region is primarily caused by the influx of floodwaters from across the border.
"Keeping this area flood-free is a challenge for us, but it is a challenge we will be able to meet," he said.
Earlier, the ministers held a discussion with officials from various government departments in Sylhet on the district's ongoing development activities.
