NARAYANGANJ, Feb 28, 2026 (BSS) - Road Transport and Bridges and Shipping
Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam today issued a stern warning to stakeholders in
the transport sector, saying that no fare hike will be allowed.

"Those who violate this directive and cause public inconvenience during Eid
will face strict legal action by the government," he said.

The minister issued this warning while responding to journalists' questions
during a visit to Narayanganj Terminal at 11am this morning.

Earlier, he inspected Narayanganj Terminal, the under-construction Khanpur
Inland Container Terminal (ICT) and Bulk Terminal, Narayanganj Dredger Base,
and the terminal building being constructed near the fish market of
Narayanganj river port with World Bank (WB) funding.

After the inspections, he held a discussion meeting with officials of the
relevant departments.

Commenting on artificial market shortages, Sheikh Rabiul Alam said, "There is
an attempt to create artificial scarcity in the market by holding essential
commodities on lighter vessels. During our on-site inspection, we found
stocks of wheat on lighter vessels. Those trying to destabilize the market by
not unloading goods on time have been directed to face legal action."

Expecting that this year's Eid journey will be comfortable and safe, he said
that areas with potential disruptions have been identified and instructions
have been issued. Efforts to ensure smooth Eid travel will be more vigilant
this year compared to last year, he added.

Among others, State Minister Habibur Rashid, Shipping Secretary Dr Nurun
Nahar Chowdhury, BIWTA Chairman Rear Admiral Arif Ahmed Mustafa, and
officials concerned were present.
