Govt issues gazette reconstituting cabinet committee on National Awards

 
DHAKA, Feb 26, 2026 (BSS) - The government has published a gazette notification reconstituting the 'Cabinet Committee on National Awards'. 
 
The committee has been formed to scrutinize and recommend proposals from various ministries for the purpose of conferring national awards.
 
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been nominated as the convener of this 10-member committee.
 
The notification issued by the Committee Affairs Branch of the Cabinet Division, signed by Additional Secretary (Committees and Finance) Md. Humayun Kabir, was published in the gazette last night.
 
The members of this committee are - Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Industries, Textiles and Jute and Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, Water Resources Minister Md. Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annee and Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu.
 
Besides, State Minister for Railways and Shipping Md. Rajib Ahsan and State Minister for Labor, Employment and Expatriates' Welfare Md. Nurul Haque are also members. 
 
The ministers of the concerned ministries will also serve as members of this committee ex officio.
 
The Cabinet Secretary and the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, along with the Secretaries or Senior Secretaries of the Ministries of Home Affairs, Finance, Information, Commerce, Culture and Education, will provide the necessary administrative and technical support to the committee. 
 
The Cabinet Division will provide secretarial support to the committee and monitor the progress of the implementation of the decisions.
 
The notification has assigned three main tasks to the committee: 
 
1. To examine the proposals received from various ministries or departments for the purpose of awarding national awards. 
 
2. To determine the order of various national awards and to make recommendations for changes if necessary. 
 
3. To examine the proposal for introducing a new national award and to submit recommendations to the government in this regard.
 
With the formation of this committee, the previous notification issued on October 2, 2024, will be deemed to be null and void. 
 
The notification will come into effect immediately and committee meetings will be held as required.
