Earning trust of city dwellers through service delivery will be top priority: DSCC Administrator

DHAKA, Feb 24, 2026 (BSS) - Newly appointed Administrator of Dhaka South City 
Corporation (DSCC) Valliant Freedom Fighter Md Abdus Salam today said earning 
the trust of city dwellers through improved service delivery would be his 
foremost priority.

"There are many problems in Dhaka city. I want to work as a partner of the 
people to solve these problems. To build a clean and livable city, including 
effective mosquito control, spontaneous participation and awareness of 
citizens are essential alongside the efforts of the city corporation," he 
told an address to officials and employees after formally assuming office at 
Nagar Bhaban in the capital today.

The DSCC administrator said the Prime Minister had entrusted him with the 
responsibility and he must now earn the confidence of residents through his 
work. "I will try to address the needs and complaints of city dwellers with 
due importance. Issues beyond our jurisdiction will be placed before the 
Prime Minister," he added.

According to a government gazette notification issued on February 22 under 
Section 25A (1) of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) 
Ordinance, 2024, Md Abdus Salam was appointed as full-time administrator of 
DSCC until further orders. Under Sub-section (3) of Section 25A of the 
ordinance, he will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the mayor.

Earlier in the morning, the newly appointed administrator submitted his 
joining letter to Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives 
Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. He later paid a courtesy call on Prime 
Minister Tarique Rahman.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister directed him to ensure cleanliness in 
the city, strengthen mosquito control measures and transform Dhaka into an 
environment-friendly "green city," and asked him to submit a specific action 
plan in this regard.

The administrator also met Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and discussed 
improvement of law and order and mutual cooperation in city management.

At around 2 pm, he visited Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and paid homage by placing 
wreaths at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime 
Minister Khaleda Zia.

Later in the afternoon, upon his arrival at Nagar Bhaban, DSCC Chief 
Executive Officer, Secretary and other senior officials welcomed him with 
Warm floral greetings.

On the occasion, Abdus Salam called upon officials and employees at all 
levels to discharge their duties with honesty and dedication to transform 
DSCC into a people-friendly and accountable institution.
