DHAKA, Feb 24, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member and lawmaker from Narsingdi-2 constituency Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan today said his party believes in multi-party democracy and does not practice politics of vengeance.
"Our party's position is very clear. BNP has always worked in favour of independence. We believe in the ideology of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. We believe in multi-party democracy and parliamentary democracy. Guided by that belief, we will move forward," he said.
Dr Moyeen Khan made the remarks while replying to questions from journalists after placing floral wreaths at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital this morning.
The delegation, led by Dr Moyeen Khan, included BNP lawmakers from the other four Narsingdi constituencies - Khairul Kabir Khokon (Narsingdi-1), Monjur Elahi (Narsingdi-3), Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain (Narsingdi-4) and Ashraf Uddin (Narsingdi-5).
Moyeen Khan said BNP is a liberal political party that believes in inclusive politics and does not support the politics of revenge.
"Our leader Tarique Rahman has repeatedly said that we believe in the rule of law. We have restored democracy in Bangladesh time and again. Following the student-public uprising on August 5, 2024, we reinstated democracy in the country. We will safeguard this democracy and the independence of Bangladesh," he added.
Dr Moyeen Khan said they joined the ongoing struggle to strengthen democracy in the country under the leadership of Tarique Rahman.
He said that after 17 years of authoritarian rule by the Bangladesh Awami League, a democratic government was formed through a spontaneous mandate of the people, and Tarique Rahman was elected Prime Minister with a two-thirds majority in parliament.
