DHAKA, Feb 23, 2026 (BSS) - Since the BNP formed the government on February 17, its central office in Naya Paltan has been almost empty of leaders and activists, while officials and employees spent idle time.
This morning, however, presented a contrasting picture as BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir arrived at the office.
After several days of silence, the BNP office became vibrant again. An active presence of leaders and activists enlivened the office. The briefing room was also spruced up.
Upon Mirza Fakhrul's arrival at Naya Paltan for the first time after the elections, he was welcomed with flowers at the main gate by BNP Assistant Office Secretary Munir Hossain, Tariqul Islam Tenzing and BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan.
Later, the BNP Secretary General went to his chamber on the third floor. There, Executive Committee member Saleh Uddin and Hindu Buddhist Christian Welfare Front Vice President Tapan Kumar Majumder, along with officials and employees, greeted him with flowers.
Office staffs were cheerful and happy. Razaul Karim, a BNP office official, said, "We have been ready since morning because Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir sir was coming. Sir has come; we are feeling good."
Another office employee said, "The office has remained nearly empty over the past six days, with few leaders or activists visiting. We had no work. Today, many people are coming, raising slogans; the office is bustling with activity."
Abdul Halim, a worker of the Metropolitan BNP in Paltan, said, "I came to the party office at 10 am knowing the Secretary General would come. A few others have come with me. For the past few days, the BNP office was completely silent. I didn't see many people. Coming today, it feels like the office has regained its life."
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir sat in his chamber on the third floor and instructed the assistant secretaries to work regularly.
He also inquired about the work activities of the officials and employees and told everyone to be present at the office regularly. He told them, "You will work regularly; no work can be left pending. If leaders and workers come from distant places, you will assist them. There should be no laxity in this."
After staying for about 45 minutes, the BNP Secretary General left for the Secretariat in his capacity as the Local Government Minister.
