DHAKA, Feb 22, 2026 (BSS) - Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has asked the field-level police officers to take strict measures to prevent any sorts of extortion, snatching and drug-related crimes.
“Normal law and order must be maintained at any cost . . . If anyone commits extortion, terrorism or drug-related crimes, legal action must be taken against them irrespective of party and opinion affiliations,” he told the officers.
The police chief came up with the directives in a virtual meeting with all police unit heads, Metropolitan Police Commissioners, Range DIGs and district police superintendents from the Police Headquarters this afternoon, said a release.
Noting that not any activity of the banned political parties can be allowed to continue, the IGP said, “If anyone tries to create chaos, legal action must be taken against them.”
About the incidents of highway robberies, he said, “Highway robberies must be stopped at any cost and the concerned police should take strict action to prevent highway robberies.”
The IGP categorically directed the Highway Police as well as the District Police to take action to prevent highway robberies at any cost.
The concerned Additional IGPs were present at the Police Headquarters at that time.
