Indian Assistant HC meets Commerce Minister Muktadir in Sylhet

SYLHET, Feb 21, 2026 (BSS) - Indian Assistant High Commissioner to Bangladesh Aniruddha Das today paid a courtesy call on Commerce, Industries and Jute and Textiles Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir at Sylhet Circuit House here.

During the meeting, they discussed various issues of mutual interest between the two countries, especially the expansion of India's trade with the Sylhet region and industrial development. 

The meeting discussed increasing import and export through the land ports on the Sylhet border and removing existing trade barriers, increasing Indian investment in the expansion of Bangladesh's jute products and textile industry and new possibilities for technical cooperation, and special initiatives to encourage Indian businessmen to invest in the industrial cities of Sylhet.

After the meeting, Khandaker Abdul Muktadir told journalists that Bangladesh has a long-standing friendly relationship with India. Both countries are working tirelessly to further strengthen this relationship, especially in the trade and industrial sectors, he added. 

He expressed optimism that this discussion will play a very positive role in the economic development of Sylhet. 

Indian Assistant High Commissioner Aniruddha Das expressed his determination to further strengthen the economic ties between the two countries. 

Local senior officials of the concerned ministries were present during the meeting.
