RU observes Amar Ekushey with due respect, dignity

RAJSHAHI, Feb 21, 2026 (BSS) - Rajshahi University (RU) observed Amar Ekushey with solemn respect and dignity today, paying tribute to the martyrs of the Language Movement.

RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Saleh Hasan Naqib, Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Mohammad Main Uddin, Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Farid Uddin Khan, and Treasurer Prof Md. Matiar Rahman, along with senior university officials, laid wreaths at the university Shaheed Minar and offered prayers for eternal peace of the martyrs' souls.

Deans, hall provosts, institute directors, department heads, the proctor, student advisers, and the Public Relations Office administrator also joined the ceremony. Later, RUCSU, the Shaheed Smriti Sangrahashala, and other organizations placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.

At dawn, the national flag was hoisted at half-mast on the Administrative Building and other university buildings. From 8:00 am, provat feri (morning processions) were held by residential halls, departments, institutes, the RU Teachers' Association, RU Women's Club, professional bodies, and RU schools, followed by wreath-laying at the Shaheed Minar.

A drawing and Bangla handwriting competition took place on the Senate Building premises. After Zuhr prayers, a Qur'an recitation and special munajat (prayer) were held at the Central Jame Mosque. 

Other programs included essay competitions at RU School and Model School, discussion meetings organized by RUCSU, RU Teachers' Association, Officers' Association, Support Staff Association, General Employees' Union, and Transport Technical Employees' Association, and a special prayer at the Central Temple in the evening. The Shaheed Smriti Sangrahashala remained open for visitors from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
