42nd death anniversary of General Osmani observed due dignity

DHAKA, Feb 16, 2026 (BSS) - The 42nd death anniversary of General Muhammad 
Ataul Gani (MAG) Osmani, commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of the War of 
Independence in 1971, was observed with due dignity and holding various 
programmes.

The day's programmes include: special prayers, discussion, placing wreath at 
his graveyard, and military honours, said a release of Inter-Services Public 
Relations (ISPR) Directorate this afternoon.

A smartly turned-out contingent of the Bangladesh Army paid rich tributes to 
the valiant son of the soil through a ceremonial 'guard of honor'.

Subsequently, a prayer session was also held seeking eternal peace of his 
departed soul and well-being of the country and its people, the release 
added.

Earlier, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 17 Infantry Division of the 
Bangladesh Army and Sylhet area commander Major General Md Alimul Amin placed 
a wreath at the graveyard of General MAG Osmani (Retd) in Sylhet with due 
military dignity. 

All senior military officers of the Sylhet area, members of other military 
ranks, local dignitaries and representatives of the different media outlets, 
among others, were present on the occasion.
