DHAKA, Dec 31, 2025 (BSS) – BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today said his party is committed to forming an accountable government through a free, fair and credible election.

“Our pledge is to form an accountable government through a free and fair election and to work collectively for the restoration of democracy, including ensuring political and economic empowerment of the people,” he said.

He made the remarks in a message issued on the eve of the English New Year.

Tarique Rahman said anti-people and authoritarian forces have long suppressed the rights of the people, adding that the time has now come to restart the journey of establishing multiparty democracy through the coordinated efforts of all democratic forces.

The BNP acting chairman said the New Year brings renewed energy, hope and possibilities, creating opportunities for the country to move forward. 

He noted that the English New Year has become an integral part of daily life across the world and is celebrated globally with enthusiasm and festivity.

On the occasion of the New Year, he called upon the nation to make united and coordinated efforts to take the country forward, overcoming social and political barriers through the traditional path of struggle.

Tarique Rahman wished happiness, peace, welfare and prosperity for all people living at home and abroad.

“The message of the New Year emerges from the experiences of the past year. The arrival of the New Year prepares us for new hope, joy and prosperity by erasing the sorrows of the old year,” he said.

The BNP acting chairman said the New Year is not only a festival but also a reflection of culture, heritage and spirit.

“We dream anew of building a beautiful and prosperous Bangladesh in the New Year,” he said, adding that his party envisions a country where every citizen matters and everyone enjoys freedom of speech.
