DHAKA, Dec 29, 2025 (BSS) - The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today cleared the way for Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna to contest the upcoming national polls by staying a High Court order that had rejected his plea seeking removal of his name from the loan defaulters' list.
"Stay for eight weeks," said the order passed by the Appellate Division Judge-in-Chamber Justice Md Rezaul Haque.
Senior Advocate Ahsanul Karim moved the plea for Manna before the apex court.
The High Court on December 24 had summarily rejected a petition filed by Mahmudur Rahman Manna seeking an order directing Bangladesh Bank to remove his name from the Credit Information Bureau (CIB) report as a loan defaulter. He later filed an appeal with the Appellate Division against the High Court order.
"Mahmudur Rahman Manna owns 50 per cent shares of Afaku Cold Storage Limited. Loans had been taken from Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited's Bogura branch in the name of the cold storage. Upon an application filed by Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Bangladesh Bank wrote to Islami Bank to reschedule the loan, after which the bank rescheduled it. More than Taka 1.26 crore has already been deposited against the loan," Manna's lawyer, Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua, told media.
