DHAKA, Dec 27, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia’s personal physician Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today said that Begum Zia is currently undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as her health condition remains critical and complex.
Speaking at a press briefing at the main gate of Evercare Hospital tonight, Dr Zahid said Khaleda Zia’s physical condition has not shown improvement and she is passing through a critical phase.
“Begum Khaleda Zia is now receiving treatment at the ICU. It cannot be said that her physical condition has improved. She is going through a critical moment,” he said.
Dr Zahid said Khaleda Zia’s health condition deteriorated after her admission to the hospital on November 23. Initially, she was kept in a cabin before being shifted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and later transferred to the ICU due to further complications.
He said BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman visited the hospital today and spent time with Khaleda Zia.
Dr Zubaida Rahman, as a member of the Medical Board, also took part in a meeting of the expert medical team consisting of doctors from the UK, the USA and Bangladesh.
According to Dr Zahid, the Medical Board has unanimously decided to continue Khaleda Zia’s treatment under the management of Evercare Hospital. The expert team is closely monitoring her condition round the clock and treatment is being administered based on their advice.
On behalf of Tarique Rahman and his family, Dr Zahid sought prayers from the nation for Khaleda Zia’s recovery.
He also expressed gratitude to the hospital’s doctors, nurses and paramedics for their sincere efforts.
Addressing party leaders, workers and activists, he urged them to remain vigilant so that the treatment process is not disrupted in any way.
He said unnecessary presence or activities should not create any inconvenience for other patients or hamper Khaleda Zia’s treatment.
Dr Zahid said the medical team is making their best efforts, adding, “If, by the grace of Almighty Allah and the efforts of the doctors, she overcomes this crisis, we will receive good news.”
Khaleda Zia was admitted to the hospital on November 23 after experiencing breathing difficulties caused by a lung infection.
