RANGPUR, Dec 26, 2025 (BSS) - Normal life still remained affected as the mild
cold wave has been sweeping over the sub-Himalayan northern districts for the
fourth consecutive day today causing sufferings to the common people.
Despite the appearance of the sun since noon and a rise in the maximum
temperatures by two to three degrees Celsius, the intensity of cold remained
mostly unchanged amidst blowing cooler winds, when the minimum temperatures
remained mostly unchanged.
The suffering of the poor people living in the riverside and char areas of
the Brahmaputra basin remained as awful today as it has been for the past few
days due to cold winds blowing from the west and northwest.
The cold forced many people to stay indoors, and business and normal
activities were partially affected until the sun shone at noon breaking
through a layer of thick fog in the sky.
Officer-in-Charge of Rangpur Meteorological office meteorologist Md
Mostafizar Rahman said that the minimum temperatures remained mostly
unchanged with a little rise at places while maximum temperatures marked a
rise today.
However, the intensity of cold remained almost unchanged in the region.
"Although the gap between the minimum and maximum temperatures increased
slightly compared to yesterday, it is still feeling cold for the fourth
consecutive day," he said.
The minimum temperature of 11.2 degrees Celsius was recorded at 9 am today
like yesterday's same temperature and maximum of 22.4 degrees against
yesterday's 20 degrees Celsius at Rangpur city.
The minimum temperatures recorded at 9 am today were 11 degrees Celsius
against yesterday's 10.6 degrees at Tentulia, 11.5 degrees Celsius against
yesterday's 10.5 degrees at Dinajpur, 11.4 degrees against yesterday's 10.5
degrees at Syedpur, 10 degrees against yesterday's 11 degrees at Dimla, 11.4
degrees against yesterday's 11.5 degrees at Rajarhat, 11 degrees against
yesterday's 10.7 degrees at Thakurgaon and 11.9 degrees against yesterday's
11.8 degrees Celsius at Gaibandha points.
The maximum temperatures recorded at 3 pm today were 24.1 degrees Celsius
against yesterday's 22.9 at Tentulia, 24.5 degrees against yesterday's 22
degrees at Dinajpur, 20.9 degrees against yesterday's 18.6 degrees at Dimla,
19.5 degrees against yesterday's 17 degrees at Rajarhat, 21.2 degrees against
yesterday's 21.8 degrees at Thakurgaon and 22.2 degrees against yesterday's
21.2 degrees Celsius at Gaibandha points in the region.
The district and upazila administrations, NGOs, business bodies, banks and
financial institutions, voluntary, socio- cultural, charitable and
professional organisations have been distributing warm clothes among the
cold- hit people.
Reports reaching from the remote and char areas of Kurigram, Lalmonirhat,
Gaibandha, Rangpur, Nilphamari, Bogra and Sirajganj districts on the
Brahmaputra basin said sufferings of people living there remained unchanged
today.
The number of cold- related patients continues to increase in the northern
districts making the elderly people, children and babies as the worst
sufferers, doctors in the hospitals and health complexes said.
Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Gausul Azim Chowdhury said
adequate steps have been taken in the hospitals and health complexes to
provide proper treatment to the cold- related patients and no incident of
cold-related death was reported so far.
Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) for
Rangpur region Agriculturist Md Shirajul Islam said that the sweeping mild
cold wave has not affected the growing crops, including potato, in the fields
"Field level DAE officials are providing necessary suggestions to farmers as
normal growth of crops including Boro seedlings might be stunted and growing
crop may fail to prepare their foods through photosynthesis if the situation
continues longer," he said.
