RANGPUR, Dec 22, 2025 (BSS) – Students of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) have renamed two academic buildings to honor the heroic patriotism and supreme sacrifices of anti-hegemonic martyrs Sharif Osman Hadi and Abrar Fahad, ensuring their legacy is remembered for generations.
After the Zuhr prayers today, students of the university renamed Academic Building-3 as Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi Bhaban and Academic Building-2 as Shaheed Abrar Fahad Bhaban by hoisting banners on the respective buildings.
At this time, Ahmadul Haque Alveer, a student of the Accounting and Information Systems Department, said that university is not just a place to earn degrees. It is from here that the education of justice, protest and humanity spreads.
"Through the renaming of the buildings, we want to convey the message to future generations that the heroic patriotism and supreme sacrifice of martyrs Sharif Osman Hadi and Abrar Fahad will forever be an inspiration for patriotism for youths," he said.
Nejaz Ahmed, a student of the Department of Gender and Development Studies, said that the next generations will see the names of these buildings and know how their senior students had to give their lives while speaking out against foreign domination and aggression.
Mehedi Hassan, a student of the Economics Department, said that both Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi and Shaheed Abrar Fahad sacrificed their lives while speaking out against repression.
“They will live on for generations, and our programme today is to preserve that memory and spirit forever,” he said.
Md Rahamat Ali, a student of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, told BSS that patriotic youths like Shaheed Osman Hadi and Shaheed Abrar Fahad will live in our hearts - in words, deeds and practices.
“The place of all patriotic children against foreign hegemony in this land is not only on the nameplate of the buildings, but in the deepest place of our hearts. Not a single concession will be made on the question of Bangladesh's sovereignty, Insha’Allah,” he said.
“The university administration needs the syndicate for decisions. But students are enough to make history. So, we have made history by putting-up banners of Shaheed Abrar Fahad Bhaban and Shaheed Osman Hadi Bhaban on the buildings,” he added.
Md Shamsur Rahman Suman, a student of the Department of Bengali, said that students have renamed Academic Building 3 as "Shaheed Osman Hadi Bhaban" and Academic Building-2 as ‘Shaheed Abrar Fahad Bhaban’ out of the sense of responsibility.
"Our hearts, feelings and patriotism are inseparable from martyrs Sharif Osman Hadi and Abrar Fahad. They will remain an inspiration of patriotism to future generations who will forever protect our motherland from foreign hegemony," he said.
The students said they are proud to be the comrades of martyr Abu Sayeed in July 2024 and to name two academic buildings of Abu Sayeed's BRUR University after Hadi and Fahad, two great martyrs of this land, for future generations.
It may be mentioned here that anti-hegemonic student Abrar Fahad was beaten to death at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in the capital city on October 7, 2019.
On the other hand, Inqilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi was shot and critically injured on December 12 of this year. He later died while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital on December 18, 2025.
