Prothom Alo, Daily Star editors given armed protection: Jahangir

DHAKA, Dec 22, 2025 (BSS) - Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md 
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that the editors of the Prothom Alo and The 
Daily Star have been given gunmen for their protection.
 
"Gunmen have been given to protect the editors of the two national dailies, 
while security at their residences has also been strengthened," he said.

The Home Adviser made the remarks today while briefing reporters today after 
the 18th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order and on 
security preparations for the Jagannath University Central Students' Union 
(JnUCSU) polls.

He also said that 17 people have been arrested in connection with the 
Thursday's attack on the offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star 
newspapers.

Emphasizing the government's stance, Chowdhury said the authorities are fully 
committed to ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order across the 
country.
