CHATTOGRAM, Dec 17, 2025 (BSS) – Religious Affairs Adviser Dr A F M Khalid Hossain today said the mentality of clinging to power is pushing the country backward.
“Once someone sits on a chair (power), they do not want to leave it. This obsession of power will take the country behind,” he said while addressing a discussion at the University of Chittagong marking the International Arabic Language Day.
Referring to the upcoming national election slated for February 12, the adviser said the current government would hand over power peacefully after the new government takes oath.
Highlighting the importance of Arabic, he said it is the official language of more than 25 countries and has wide demand globally in religious, economic, diplomatic, commercial and labour sectors.
He added that Arabic students have access to global scholarship opportunities, urging universities to enhance students’ language proficiency.
Dr Khalid also criticized the politicization of universities and expressed hope for reforms in recruitment and academic culture.
He announced plans to establish an Islamic Foundation Corner at the University of Chittagong, alongside ensuring mosque carpets and one-time scholarships for 25 Arabic department students.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Yeahia Akhter and senior university officials were present at the programme.
