DMP chief demands Dhaka police’s “cent percent” neutrality during polls

DHAKA, Dec 10, 2025 (BSS) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali today asked policemen in the capital to ensure their “cent percent” neutrality and discharge duties with utmost professionalism during the planned election in February.

“All police members must maintain 100 percent neutrality in the upcoming elections and perform their duties with utmost sincerity and professionalism,” he said while addressing a monthly crime review meeting at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium at Rajarbagh Pilice Lines.

The DMP chief said new officers-in-charge (OC) were appointed at different police stations recently as part of a reshuffle and they must quickly take note of situations within their purview to take appropriate actions.

“They (OCs) have to control crimes, identify habitual criminals quickly and brought under the law,” Ali said.

DMP’s additional commissioner Md Sarwar police stations must enhance street patrols in particular cases using the government issued motorbikes and install CCTV cameras at important places to intensify anti-crime vigil.

Another DMP additional commissioner S N Md Nazrul Islam said that the new deputy commissioners (DCs) and OCs must grasp crime patterns of areas of their purview and act accordingly.

“Officers will have to be more responsible in disposing cases and enforcing warrants,” he said also asking for strengthening community policing and beat policing particularly identity verification in hiring domestic workers and awareness about strangers.

DMP’s joint commissioner Md Faruk Hossain presented a report on the overall crime situation of November-2025 such as robbery, banditry, theft, burglary, murder, accidental death, road accidents, women and child abuse, rape, recovery of drugs and weapons.

The DMP Commissioner gave various instructions to the police members and awarded officers of various ranks in various categories acknowledging their good works in maintaining law and order, controlling crime and providing public safety in the capital in November.

Additional Police Commissioners Md Masud Karim, Md Shafiqul Islam, Hasan Md Shawkat Ali, Joint Police Commissioners, DCs, OCs of all police stations and police officers were present at the meeting.
