PABNA, Dec 9, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser's Special Assistant on Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges Sheik Moinuddin today said that direct train service from Pabna to Dhaka will begin in March 2026.
He revealed it while talking to journalists at the Pakshi Divisional Railway Office in Pabna this morning.
Mentioning that the railway department is currently facing a shortage of coaches, Sheik Moinuddin said that the issue is expected to be resolved soon, and preparations are underway to start direct rail operations from Pabna to Dhaka from March.
He also said a review will be conducted on the railway station built for transporting materials to the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant before a final decision is made.
Sharing the plan to build a modern and integrated communication system via waterways, railways and roads across the country, the special assistant said the government has already started work to upgrade district-level connecting highways into four lanes and widen major roads. The government is giving priority consideration to widening the main Abdul Hamid Road in Pabna, he added.
Besides, the Aricha Khaschar ferry connection project, Pakshi-Badherhat road expansion project and Kashinathpur-Ullapara road widening project are under active consideration of the government, he said, also assuring that an overpass would be constructed to ease traffic congestion at Ishwardi rail gate.
Earlier, BNP Chairperson's Special Assistant and BNP candidate for Pabna Sadar, Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, and BNP District Convener and BNP nominated candidate for Pabna-4, Habibur Rahman Habib, placed long-standing local demands for improving communication to Sheik Moinuddin on behalf of the people of Pabna.
Sheik Moinuddin arrived in Ishwardi on Monday. On Tuesday, he visited the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project and the North Bengal Paper Mill School, which carries memories of the adviser's student life.
Pabna Press Club General Secretary Zahurul Islam, District BNP Senior Joint Convener Alhaj Abdus Samad Khan Montu, Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners Association Secretary General Abu Ahsan Khan Rayan and officials of the Western Railway Division were present.
