DHAKA, Dec 08, 2025 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today scrapped a writ petition that pleaded for staying the process for holding upcoming  13th national election,  scheduled for February 2026.

A High Court division bench of Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi and Justice Raziuddin Ahmed rejected the petition as "not pressed", meaning it was not presented properly.

“When the country is moving into an election phase, the filing of such a writ at this stage is deemed to be inappropriate,” said petitioner advocate Md Earul Islam, quoting the court’s observation.

The petitioner said he then opted to abstain from moving the plea, and the court after that dismissed it as not pressed.

Bangladesh Congress secretary general advocate Md Earul Islam filed the petition on December 3, saying that Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) are being appointed as returning officers and assistant returning officers respectively instead of district and upazila election officers.

He pleaded for court’s direction and ruling in this connection.
