DHAKA, Dec 6, 2025 (BSS) –  Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan has announced that the sale of domestically produced sugar through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has begun and will continue for the time being.
“ Sugar imports from abroad have been temporarily stopped, as the government plans to prioritize the sale of sugar currently stocked in local sugar mills.

Speaking to journalists today after inspecting the renovation progress of the Uttara Ganabhaban in Natore, he has emphasized that state-owned sugar mills cannot operate sustainably on subsidies alone.

“To ensure long-term sustainability, both local and foreign investments are essential,” he said.

He added that discussions with potential investors are already underway and expressed optimism about positive developments in the near future.

Following the inspection, the Industry Adviser visited Natore Sugar Mills Ltd.
He noted that existing sugar mills are capable of meeting only a small portion of the country’s total sugar demand.

“We have to enhance sugar production capacity,” he said.

The event was attended by Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation Chairman (Additional Charge) Rashidul Hasan, Public Works Department Chief Engineer Md Khalequezzaman Choudhury, Natore district Deputy Commissioner Asma Shaheen, Police Superintendent Muhammad Abdul Wahab, Natore Sugar Mills Ltd. Managing Director Md. Akhlasur Rahman, and other district administration officials.
