BSS journo Mah Alam gets Butterfly Media Award-2025

DHAKA, Dec 5, 2025 (BSS) - Mah Alam, Jahangirnagar University Correspondent of the national news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), has been honoured with the Butterfly Media Award 2025 (Digital Category) in recognition of his contributions to wildlife journalism, nature and biodiversity conservation reporting.

The award was presented to Mah Alam at the inaugural session of the ‘Butterfly Fair-2025’, held today in front of the Zahir Raihan Auditorium on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus.

JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan presented the crest and certificate as the chief guest of the programme. The inaugural event was chaired by Chairman of JU’s Zoology Department Prof Dr Md Mansurul Haque.

JU Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Sohel Ahmed, Treasurer Prof Dr M Abdur Rab, acting Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof Mohammad Mafruhi Sattar, Eminent wildlife scientist Dr Ali Reza Khan, Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) of the Bangladesh Forest Department Amir Hossain Chowdhury, and IUCN Bangladesh Country Director and former CCF Istiaq Ahmed, attended the ceremony.

Mah Alam is currently serving as the Office and Publication Secretary of the Jahangirnagar University Journalists’ Association (JUJA).

Expressing his feelings, Mah Alam said, “I am very much grateful to the organisers for this honour. This recognition will further inspire me to continue reporting on nature, biodiversity and conservation issues with greater commitment and responsibility.”

The 15th edition of the fair was organised by the Entomology Section of the Department of Zoology at Jahangirnagar University. 

This year’s event is supported by title sponsor Cute, with Prokriti O Jibon Foundation, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Arannayk Foundation and the Bangladesh Forest Department as associate partners. Channel i and Radio Vumi are serving as media partners.
