DHAKA, Dec 03, 2025 (BSS) – The overall construction progress of the extended 1.16-km metro line stretching from the Motijheel to Kamalapur section has so far reached 67.86 percent.
“Construction work on the viaduct and one station along the Motijheel–Kamalapur section—the 1.16-km extension of MRT Line-6—is in full swing,” a Metro Rail Line-6 project official told BSS here today.
He said that as of November 2025, all 177 piles, all pile caps, all piers, and all station columns have been completed.
The official added that the authorities expect to complete the 1.16-kilometre metro rail extension from Motijheel to Kamalapur by next year, as work on expanding MRT Line-6 is progressing rapidly.
According to the metro project, lifting of 24 spans out of a total of 27 has been completed, while construction of the concourse roof and the platform slabs has been completed.
Besides, all the precast parapet walls have been installed, while the steel roof structure of the station and steel erection work have been completed, the project details said.
The project authorities focused on intense construction activities, including agreements for installing electrical and mechanical systems.
Meanwhile, the government has saved Taka 185 crore from electro-mechanical work of the metro rail, particularly in the Motijheel–Kamalapur section.
According to metro rail project, as of November 30, 2025, the actual average progress of the Uttara Uttar-Motijheel section reached 99.56 percent, while the Motijheel-Kamalapur section recorded 67.86 percent.
It said construction of all station columns has been completed, while all 298 precast segments have been finished at the construction yard.
The total length of Bangladesh’s first Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line—from Diabari, Uttara, Mirpur, Agargaon, Farmgate, Shahbagh, Dhaka University, Motijheel to Kamalapur—is 21.26 kilometres. Commercial operations of the metro rail from Uttara to Motijheel began in November 2023.
Now the first train leaves Motijheel station at 7:00 am, previously 7:30 am, and the last train leaves at 10:10 pm, previously 9:40 pm (Saturday–Thursday), according to the new schedule of the metro rail.
It said the first train leaves Uttara Uttar station at 6:40 am, whereas earlier it left at 7:10 am. The last train leaves at 9:30 pm, previously 9:00 pm.
On Fridays, the metro rail starts its journey from 2:30 pm.
