DHAKA, Nov 27, 2025 (BSS) – Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has extended his heartfelt congratulations to photographer Amir Hamja, whose powerful photograph capturing the burial prayers of Didarul Islam, has been selected for TIME's "100 Photos of the Year.
"This recognition is not only a testimony to Mr. Hamja's exceptional artistic vision, but also a proud moment for Bangladesh, as the stories of our nation and our vibrant diaspora - continue to be portrayed with depth, dignity, and global resonance,” he said.
Farooki also said, “I am proud to note that Bangladeshi photographers have long held an esteemed place on the world stage. Before Amir Hamja, the works of distinguished photographers KM Asad, Taslima Akhter, and Munir Uz Zaman were also included in TIME's 100 Photos of the Year. Many other Bangladeshi photographers have received global acclaim through their remarkable contributions to visual storytelling, inspiring a new generation of artists across the country,” he added.
In recognition of photography's longstanding tradition as one of Bangladesh's most dynamic and influential art forms, Farooki was pleased to announce that Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is introducing photography as part of one of its departments for the first time. “This initiative reflects our commitment to nurturing creative talent, supporting artistic innovation, and ensuring that photography receives the institutional platform it truly deserves,”
