DHAKA, Nov 23, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) today said it “re-fixed” gas price for fertilizer production at Tk.29.95 per unit from Taka 16 with effect from December 1.

“The commission's technical committee announced that the new price of per unit gas for fertilizer category considering the current rate,” BERC chairman Jalal Ahmed said.

Addressing the press briefing at BERC conference room, he said the new gas price for fertilizer category was fixed following a stakeholders hearing on October 6, as per the proposals of the Petrobangla and gas distribution companies.

Ahmed said a balance was maintained for fixing gas price by taking into consideration all related factors including impact of the price enhancement on the agriculture sector and issues related to food security and employment.

Officials familiar with the development said the Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Corporation (Petrobangla) and four state-run distribution companies had proposed the price to be enhanced to Tk.40 from Tk 16.

They said the new gas price was fixed as per the Petrobangla and gas distribution companies submitted a category-specific pricing plan, citing the need to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet rising demand.

The three other stakeholders are Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution, Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited, Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Limited and Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited.
