DHAKA, Nov 21, 2025 (BSS) - Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk-e-Azam, Bir Pratik, today asked officials concerned to assess the damages caused by the earthquake that struck the country this morning.
The adviser instructed officials at the field level to closely monitor the situation and immediately assess possible damages on the ground.
The 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck the capital city and several other parts of the country at 10:38 am today, according to Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD).
According to a ministry press release, “After assessing the damages caused by earthquake, necessary measures will be taken, giving public safety the highest priority,” the adviser said.
A control room was opened at the Disaster Management Department immediately after the earthquake, the release added.
People have been asked to contact the control room's telephone number-0258811651 for any inquiry. In addition, the government requested everyone to be alert and avoid rumours or confusion in this regard.
A total of six people were killed across the country including Dhaka due to the earthquake, which struck different parts of the country including the capital on Friday morning.
