SYLHET, Nov 20, 2025 (BSS) - Statistics and Information Management Secretary
Aleya Akhter today urged all stakeholders to work in a coordinated manner to
achieve the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
"The government is firm to achieve the SDG targets . . . It has already
adopted an action plan to implement the Sustainable Development Goals
declared by the United Nations (UN)," she said.
The secretary came up with this remark while speaking as the chief guest at a
seminar on 'SDG Localization' organised by the Statistics and Information
Management Department at the conference room of the Sylhet Divisional
Commissioner's Office here today.
She said special emphasis has been placed on the localization of SDGs to
involve people from different classes and professions of the society with the
SDGs.
Aleya Akhter said the prime objective of SDG localization is to bring forward
the needs of the backward communities and formulate development plans in that
light.
Taking into account local culture, environment and needs, development
planning is most important in terms of SDG localization, she added.
"Each of us has to be accountable for our work . . . We have to conduct state
activities within the constraints of resources and opportunities," she
mentioned.
The Statistics and Information Management Department secretary hoped that a
tremendous success is possible if all work with honesty and sincerity from a
place of responsibility.
In her speech, she instructed the concerned authorities to achieve the SDG
targets by 100 percent cultivation of wasteland in Sylhet, bringing 100
percent education to children in tea gardens, and developing roads and
infrastructure to expand the tourism.
Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md Reza-un-Nabi chaired the seminar while
the keynote address was presented by SDG Cell Deputy Director and Focal Point
Md. Alamgir Hossain and Professor of Economics Department of Shahjalal
University of Science and Technology Dr Md Rafiqul Islam.
Among others, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics Director General Mohammad
Mizanur Rahman, Additional Secretary of Statistics and Information Management
Department Mohammad Masud Rana Chowdhury and Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md
Sarwar Alam also spoke there as special guests.
Besides, officials from various government and private departments and media
personnel were present.
