Ali Imam for implementing projects without causing people's suffering

DHAKA, Nov 19, 2025 (BSS) - Land Adviser Ali Imam Majumder today said land acquisition is essential for the implementation of any major development project like construction of roads, bridges, sluice gates, dams, railway lines, hospitals, educational institutions, power projects or industrialization for national development. 

"Development is certainly necessary, but that development should not cause suffering to the people. Therefore, utmost importance should be given to ensuring that there is no suffering to the people in the land acquisition process," he said.

The adviser said these while presiding over the 152nd meeting of the Central Land Allocation Committee held at the meeting room of the Ministry of Land. 


Senior Secretary of the ministry ASM Saleh Ahmed was present at the meeting.

Referring to the traffic jam on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, Imam said that the people want to see a solution to it as soon as possible and mentioned that he himself will monitor the overall issue of this road. 

He urged all concerned not to change the category of ponds in the allocation of land for waste management in Narayanganj district.

The meeting approved 1.8726 acres of land for the project titled 'Construction of Important Bridges on Rural Roads' under Rupganj upazila of Dhaka district under LGED; 4.0530 acres of land for the project titled 'Construction of Important Bridges on Rural Roads' under Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district; 36.9900 acres of land for the 'Urban Development City Governance Project' for waste management of Narayanganj City Corporation. 

A total 168.504 acres of land acquisition for the construction of ICDs in Dhikshan and Dhiram of Gazipur district and construction of Pubail-Dhirashram rail link has been approved while the Narsingdi Water Development Board has approved the acquisition of 0.2458 acres of land for the construction of two sluice gates under the FCDI sub-project of Balushair under Sadar Upazila of Narsingdi district under the project titled 'Climate Smart Agriculture and Management (CMADWM).

Among the acquisition proposals of more than 50 bighas received for final approval from various districts recommended by the District Land Allocation Committee, final approval has been given for the acquisition of 94.16 acres of land, 20.20 acres, and 84.42 acres of land in various mouzas for the excavation work of "Char Development and Settlement Project Bridging (Additional Financing) (BAPUBO) Sea-Dike (Retarded)" under Subarnachar Upazila of Noakhali district. 

A total of 2.256 acres of land for the project titled 'Rehabilitation of Polder No. 14/1 under Koyra Upazila of Khulna District'; 11.0713 acres for the project titled "Land Acquisition and Utility Transfer Project: Support to Upgrading Dhaka (Kanchpur)-Sylhet-Tamabil Highway to Four Lanes and Construction of Separate Service Lanes on Both Sides" under the Sylhet Roads Department; 12.9506 acres, 8.6856 acres, 14.9930 acres, 10.0384 acres, 0.9643 acres, 0.2565 acres, 7.4980 acres, 10.4728 acres and 11.5268 acres for the upgradation of Dhaka (Kanchpur)-Sylhet-Tamabil Highway to Four Lanes' have been approved.

The committee also gave final approval to acquire 46.4667 acres of land for the project titled "Upgrading the Magura-Narail (R-720) Regional Highway" to appropriate standards and width, including simplification of curves.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources Md. Mokabbir Hossain, Secretary of Agriculture Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Md. Nazrul Islam, Secretary of the Local Government Division Md. Rezaul Maksud Zahedi, Secretary in-charge of the Bridge Division, Chief Engineer of the Road Division and senior officials of the ministry, among others, were present at the meeting.
