DHAKA, Nov 18, 2025 (BSS) - Mutual cooperation between Bangladesh and Pakistan Police academies will be increased, said Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
He said this when Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider paid a courtesy call on him at his ministry office at the Secretariat here this afternoon.
The meeting discussed various issues related to mutual interests of the two countries, including mutual cooperation and capacity building between the police and extradition of criminals, said a Home Ministry press release.
Welcoming the Pakistani High Commissioner, the Home Adviser said that the relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan are spiritual and historical.
He said that the Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry visited Pakistan at the end of last September.
Through the visit, he said the bilateral relations between the two countries have been further strengthened.
Jahangir said that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) or agreement will be signed to strengthen cooperation between the police academies of the two countries.
Moreover, there is currently no legal instrument for the mutual exchange or extradition of criminals between the two countries, he said.
Although an initiative was taken to sign an agreement regarding the matter in 2004, it was not implemented later, he added.
"Initiatives will be taken again to sign an agreement in this regard," he said.
The High Commissioner said that Pakistan is interested to cooperate in the procurement of armored security vehicles, drones and agricultural mechanization for the Bangladesh Police.
Additional Secretary (Political) of the Ministry of Home Affairs Khandaker Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Counselor of the Pakistan Embassy Kamran Dhangal, among others, were present in the meeting.
