RAJSHAHI, Nov 18, 2025 (BSS) - Integrated efforts of all the government, non-government and volunteer organizations concerned can be the crucial means of making the roads and highways free from accidents.

A holistic approach involving public awareness, regular driver training, and improved infrastructure is also essential to prevent road traffic accidents, experts said at a workshop here on Monday afternoon.

They observed that there is no alternative to raising awareness among the general public to curb road accidents, which continue to cause significant loss of lives and property each year.

The views were expressed at a workshop for Community volunteers and traffic assistance, organized by the Road Safety Programme of BRAC, held at SK Food World.

Traffic-in-Charge of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Abu Hena Mostofa Noman, Assistant Director of the Bangladesh Road Traffic Authority Faisal Hassan and Project Lead of BRAC Road Safety Programme Nazmul Haque addressed the meeting as resource persons, disseminating their expertise. BRAC District Coordinator Mohsin Ali presided over the meeting.

Abu Hena Mostofa Noman emphasized the need for implementing local action plans, specialized training for commercial motorcycle drivers, and community-based awareness campaigns, including road safety-based theatre, films.

Nazmul Haque said the BRAC Road Safety Programme aims to reduce road crash fatalities and injuries, especially among vulnerable communities.

Its activities include driver training and community awareness, formation of Community Road Safety Groups (CRSGs), implementation of local safety plans, and policy advocacy.
He also stressed the importance of enhanced coordination and capacity building among relevant agencies.
