DHAKA, Nov 13, 2025 (BSS)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam today said that elected parliament will resolve the country's impending issues.
“The elected parliament will address and resolve the country’s unresolved issues through discussions,” he said while speaking at a discussion titled “National Parliamentary Election 2026: The Necessity of National Unity” held at a hotel in Gulshan.
Mirza Fakhrul said that there is an increasing focus on the practice of democracy. He believes that true democracy will emerge from these discussions.
Regarding the democratic process of the country, he said, “Since the time of Pakistan, democracy has been frustrated and destroyed. This time, the July warriors have provided an opportunity to institutionalize the democracy.”
“BNP will also continue this effort and it will be better for the country the sooner we can form an elected government through elections. Currently, there is no reason to be disappointed,” he said.
Regarding the Proportional Representation (PR) system in the upcoming elections, Fakhrul said, “PR system is something the people of the country don’t yet understand.
BNP Secretary General said the BNP still wants anti-fascist political parties to form a national government, and in this regard election is the only way.
Poet and political thinker Farhad Mazhar, chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon Bangladesh Zonayed Saki, Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur and Senior Joint Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) Samantha Sharmin were also spoke in the event.
