Govt is committed to ensuring proper jobs, safety for workers: Sakhawat

DHAKA, Nov 12, 2025(BSS) - Labour, Employment and Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain has said that the interim government is committed to ensuring proper jobs, equality and protection for all the workers.

"A disabled man is not a burden, he is a citizen, a worker and a contributor," he said this while addressing a conference titled "Empower Ability: Powering Every Ability" at a hotel here yesterday as chief guest. 

The conference was organized jointly by Bangladesh Business and Disabled Network (BBDN), Brac Bank and GIZ, said an official release here today.

"We want to develop a compassionate incorporating the disabled persons, their innovations, loyalty and productivity," Sakhawat said.

Congratulating the business community for incorporating the challenged works in the main stream jobs, he said, "We want to empower them through their recruitment, education, training and culture of honouring."

The Ministry of Laboiur and Employment has been working relentlessly for ensuring workers' rights and their protection by strengthening the labour law and improving standard of health, Dr Sakhawat added.

Expressing his hope for building an inclusive Bangladesh through the leadership of the non-government sector and social partnership, the adviser said that there needs a deep partnership among the government, employers and development partners.

The interim government recently signed three conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and achieved the status of 10 basic convention signatory countries in the Asia that reflects the strong commitment of the interim government to ensure workers' protection, he said.

Labour Secretary Dr Md Sanwar Jahan Bhuiyan attended the conference as special guest where over 50 institutions joined.
