DHAKA, Nov 12, 2025 (BSS)- BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said that the European Union (EU) wants democracy to return to Bangladesh through a fair election.
He said, the EU will send observers and provide assistance to the Election Commission to ensure a free and fair election in Bangladesh.
Khasru said this while talking to journalists after a meeting between BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Dhaka Michael Miller at the BNP Chairperson's political office in Gulshan today.
"We have discussed with the EU Ambassador how the BNP is moving forward in the context of the 13th National Parliament Election, what was the the nomination process, and the country's move towards the election," Khasru said.
The BNP leader reiterated that the EU's main focus was on the election—informing the party that they would assist the Election Commission, send observers, and speak with civil society. They primarily want democracy to return to Bangladesh through a successful election.
Regarding the July Charter, the BNP leader said, "The July Charter was signed after discussion and consensus. There might be some other issues beyond that, which is not understandable. We hope the government will come up with an acceptable solution in this regard."
Commenting on the Awami League's lockdown programme, he said, "The Awami League is not in the electoral race, and neither is their leader, so there is nothing to discuss about their programme."
The law and order situation is a matter of concern. We expect the forces to remain vigilant. Law enforcement agencies must take a stronger stance, he said.
