DHAKA, Nov 9, 2025 (BSS) - The government will procure 700,000 metric tons of rice and paddy from the current Aman season to ensure fair prices for farmers and maintain a stable food buffer.
Of the targeted quantity, some 600,000 metric tons will be parboiled rice, 50,000 metric tons atap rice, and another 50,000 metric tons of paddy.
The procurement prices have been fixed at Taka 50 per kg for parboiled rice, Taka 49 per kg for atap rice, and Taka 34 per kg for paddy.
Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder today announced the decision following a meeting of the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee held at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Ali Imam Majumder said the price levels were set keeping interests of the farmers at the centre. “The procurement prices have been determined in a way that covers production costs and ensures farmers receive a reasonable profit,” he said.
The Aman procurement drive will begin on 20 November, 2025 and continue until February next, he added.
