DHAKA, Nov 6, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh has called for adequate and predictable financial resources, along with a strong international partnership, to ensure inclusive social development that leaves no one behind.
Bangladesh made the call as an inter-ministerial delegation attended the three-day Second World Summit for Social Development, which concluded today in Doha, Qatar, according to a release from the Ministry of Social Welfare.
In a statement, Social Welfare Secretary Dr Mohammad Abu Yusuf, leader of the Bangladesh delegation, highlighted the country's people-centered development model, emphasizing social justice, inclusion, and innovations such as microcredit and social business initiatives.
He also shared Bangladesh's experience in lifting millions out of extreme poverty through effective public policies, an inclusive social protection system, and innovative social programs.
The social welfare secretary further highlighted the challenges faced by graduating Least Developed Countries (LDCs), including limited fiscal space, rising debt burdens, and climate-induced disasters.
Bangladesh underlined its huge humanitarian responsibilities for hosting 1.3 million forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar and stressed that new financial conditionalities should not burden graduating LDCs.
The country also called for promoting technology transfer to reduce the digital divide and mobilizing predictable, accessible climate finance, particularly for adaptation measures.
The Bangladesh delegation actively participated in several side events organized by UN agencies and development partners, sharing its best practices on social protection, women and youth empowerment, migrant workers' welfare, elderly care, and climate-resilient social systems.
The delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, Ministry of Finance, Cabinet Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York.
