DHAKA, Nov 6, 2025 (BSS) - Although both dengue infection and death rates are lower this year than last year, an emergency meeting on Aedes mosquito control was held today at the Dhaka South City Corporation's (DSCC) Nagar Bhaban due to the recent increase in dengue outbreaks.
The meeting was chaired by DSCC Administrator Md. Mahmudul Hasan and attended by officials from the Health Department, Waste Management Department, and regional executive offices.
In the meeting, it was decided to form ward-based monitoring teams that will include local citizens to ensure the effective application of drugs used for adulticide and larvicide in Aedes mosquito control.
These teams will also formulate and maintain local schedules for drug application. Additionally, the Waste Management Department, in collaboration with citizens, will work to eliminate Aedes mosquito breeding grounds across the DSCC area.
The meeting further decided to identify area-based hotspots considering dengue infection rates and conduct hotspot-based combing campaigns.
Addressing the meeting, DSCC Administrator , "Just as the City Corporation has the responsibility to control Aedes mosquitoes, so do the respected citizens."
He announced that mobile court campaigns will be conducted suddenly and on a dual-choice basis at the field level, emphasizing the need to strengthen citizen awareness alongside the City Corporation's operational responsibilities in mosquito control.
DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Zahirul Islam stated that the corporation has been working to raise public awareness in addition to applying medicines and maintaining cleanliness to control dengue.
"Special messages are being disseminated in mosques and temples to prevent dengue, including public notices in newspapers, TVCs on television, and social media," he said.
He added that area-based special cleanliness and mosquito extermination campaigns will begin soon with renewed enthusiasm.
The meeting also announced that free dengue tests will be available at three DSCC hospitals - Dhaka Metropolitan General Hospital, Dhaka Metropolitan Children's Hospital, and Nazira Bazar Maternity - for suspected cases.
The citizens were requested to report any dengue-related information within the DSCC area by contacting 01709-900888.
