DHAKA, Nov 02, 2025 (BSS) - Land Adviser Ali Imam Majumdar today said survey and settlement are the foundation of ensuring land services.
“Every living thing on earth is connected to the land in some way . . . Land is not just the property of humans; it is the collective wealth of all living things on the earth. Humans should use land responsibly, preserve the habitats of animals and birds, and respect nature,” he said.
He said these at the inauguration ceremony of the '141st Survey and Settlement Training Course' for BCS cadre (Administration, Police, Forest and Railway) and Judicial Service officers at the meeting room of Karim Jute Mills Limited in Demra, Dhaka.
The training course was organized by the Department of Land Records and Survey. A total of 60 trainees participated in this 52-day training.
Ali Imam Majumder said, “We must think that this land belongs to everyone. Just as humans need land for life, animals also depend on land for survival. Land is not just a means of production, it is a haven for biodiversity.”
He said it is essential for the officers to have professional skills, technical knowledge and practical experience to carry out the survey and settlement work properly. Therefore, Survey and Settlement Training is considered a very significant training program, he said.
He said survey and settlement activities are a very important part of the land administration system. Through this, the correct ownership of the land is determined, records are preserved and updated, he added.
Ali Imam Majumder said officials will acquire in-depth knowledge about modern survey methods through this training. This makes land survey activities faster, more accurate and transparent, he added.
He said settlement training teaches the process of preparing, updating and preserving land records, which helps citizens ensure their rightful ownership. This reduces land disputes, encroachment problems and litigation to a large extent, he added.
He said this training increases the sense of responsibility, honesty and service attitude among officials. Trained officials play an important role in increasing transparency and quality of public service in land management, he added.
The adviser said this training creates an opportunity to gain practical knowledge in field work. Practical practice of land measurement, map drawing, record correction makes officials and employees skilled, he added.
He said, "Survey and Settlement Training is not just a training, it is the main driving force for the development of land administration and increasing the quality of public services. Therefore, it is a duty for every officer to take this training, as well as one of the tools for developing efficient, transparent and people-friendly land management."
Majumder said there are officers from different cadres in this training. An interpersonal relationship will be developed between different cadres which will have a positive impact on the workplace in the future, he added.
