IU syndicate approves students’ unions constitution

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, Kushtia, Oct 31, 2025 (BSS) – The syndicate of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia has approved the constitution of the Islamic University Central Students’ Union (ICSU) and hall unions in its 271st meeting held on Thursday.

According to the ICSU constitution drafting committee, the central students’ union will consist of 25 posts. Among them, 23 posts will be elected directly by students’ votes, while the university vice-chancellor and treasurer will serve as president and treasurer of the central union respectively.

Meanwhile, each hall union will have 15 posts. The hall provost will act as the president and will appoint one of the assistant provosts as the treasurer. The remaining 13 positions will be filled through direct voting by the hall’s residents concerned.

Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman, convener of the ICSU Constitution and statute drafting committee, said, “After preparing the draft constitution, we held several meetings with journalists and all student organizations of the university. Everyone gave their opinions. Those claiming that we didn’t discuss with student bodies are not telling the truth.”

IU Treasurer Professor Dr Md Jahangir Alam confirmed the approval, saying, “The syndicate has unanimously approved the ICSU constitution. It will now be sent to the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Law for further vetting before being forwarded to the President for final approval. After the President’s consent, it will be incorporated into the university law as an ordinance.”
