Ziaur Rahman provided microcredit at 2% interest to create entrepreneurs: Fakhrul

DHAKA, Oct 21, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman had provided microcredit at a 2 percent interest rate to create entrepreneurs in the underdeveloped areas in the country.

“When the founder of our party was in power, he arranged to provide microloans with a 2% interest rate to create entrepreneurs in underdeveloped areas of the country,” he said. 
Fahrul made the remarks in a discussion with the entrepreneurs, leaders and activists from the small ethnic groups held at the BNP Chairperson office in Gulshan this afternoon. 

“As a result, the number of entrepreneurs in those regions increased significantly. Those who genuinely believe in nationalism, those who truly desire the welfare of the people, the welfare of the country and the welfare of various communities are the ones who undertake these actions,” Fakhrul added.

After listening to the issues of the entrepreneurs of small ethnic groups, the senior BNP leader assured, "If the BNP comes to power, it will arrange financial assistance in the form of loans with easy and low-interest terms from financial institutions for the small ethnic group female entrepreneurs."

Mirza Fakhrul assured that the BNP will always stand by the side of the small ethnic groups. "The BNP will work with the small ethnic groups and speak about their interests. It will work to fulfill their basic needs and for their establishment in politics,” he added. 

The BNP Secretary General also mentioned giving priority to supporting female entrepreneurs during the tenures of President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia.

Member of the BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council Bijan Kanti Sarkar, President of the small ethnic group's party Mrigen Hagidok, small ethnic group female entrepreneur Shantanu Snita Nokrek and Swapna Azim, and members of the small ethnic groups were present in the event and highlighted their various problems.
