Over 13 lakh people received govt. provided legal support: report    

DHAKA, Oct 20, 2025 (BSS) - The state-run National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has provided legal assistance free of cost to 13,03,643 people and realized over Tk 293 crore as compensation for victims from 2009 to September this year.

The latest report undated in the webpage, NLASO said during the period it disposed over 4.91 lakh cases through alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanism both during their pre- and post-case phases.

Among the recipients of the free legal service, 132,417 were imprisoned people.

NLASO provides supports through its Supreme Court legal aid office, district offices, two cells in Dhaka and Chattogram and helpline call centres for involvement or poor people.

According to the report NLASO’s Supreme Court legal aid office so far provided legal services to 29,791 people while its legal aid offices in 64 districts provided services to 10,52,686 people free of cost.

The legal assistance cells in Dhaka and Chattogram provided 29,673 legal suggestions to the poor and involvement people at that time.

The NLASO toll free helpline provided free services to 1,91,493 during the period.

NLASO initially introduced its service for the poor and insolvent people at district levels and later it set up its office at the Supreme Court and the two dedicated cells for workers in the capital and southeastern port city.
