DHAKA, Oct 15, 2025 (BSS) - None was suspected to be in the chemical warehouse damaged in the devastating fire at Sialbari in Mirpur in the capital on Tuesday.

"The chemical warehouse was locked when it caught fire. So, we suspect there is none inside the depot. But, everything will be cleared after complete control of the blaze in the warehouse which requires much more time," Assistant Director of Dhaka Division of Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) Kazi Nuzmuzzaman told a news briefing at the site.

He has called upon all including the media personnel to stay away from the chemical warehouse as harmful chemical is still leaking from there which is health hazardous and life taking.

A five-member Hazmat (chemical expert) team of the fire service visited the chemical warehouse today wearing protective chemical fire suits to identify the source of the smoke, he said.

The fire broke out in a ready-made garment factory and an adjacent chemical warehouse on Tuesday.

Explosions in the two-storey warehouse spread the fire to a four-story building next door. 16 bodies were later recovered from different areas of the four-story building's first and second floors.

Two of the three injured in the fire, who were receiving treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS), were discharged today, confirmed Dr Shwan bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the institute.
