DHAKA, Oct 12, 2025 (BSS) - Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid today said the National Typhoid Vaccination Campaign 2025 is a milestone initiative for health protection of children.
She said this while delivering speech as the special guest at the inaugural ceremony of the Typhoid Vaccination Campaign 2025 at Sir Salimullah Muslim Orphanage here today, said an official handout.
Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum inaugurated the campaign as the chief guest.
Sharmeen sought everyone's cooperation to make the campaign a grand success.
The advisor expressed the hope that this vaccination campaign will reach all the children and adolescents of schools of the country.
For the first time in Bangladesh, the National Typhoid Vaccination Campaign has started from today. Under this program, 1 dose of Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) will be given free of cost to all children from 9 months to 15 years.
For the first time at the national level, about five crore children will be vaccinated through the same campaign. Even if any child does not have a birth certificate, he or she will be able to get the vaccine. No child will be deprived of the vaccine.
The Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) is a safe, advanced and effective vaccine that increases the body's immunity. Typhoid prevention is possible by administering a single dose to children at the age of 9 months to 15 years, which will ensure long-term protection for children.
The Ministry of Health said that initially, students from pre-primary to ninth grade will be vaccinated in schools, madrasas and equivalent educational institutions til October 30. Later, all children aged 9 months to 15 years, even out-of-school children, will be vaccinated at various permanent and temporary vaccination centers till November 13. Various government and private organizations have been involved in the vaccination of floating and street children in the city.
Already, the registration of 1.68 crore children has been completed, and vaccination certificates can be downloaded directly after registration.
According to experts, if such an initiative is successfully implemented, typhoid infection in the country will significantly reduce and the quality and safety of child health will reach a new height.
