DHAKA, Oct 12, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh high commissioner to Maldives Dr Md Nazmul Islam particularly emphasised the long-standing demand for the establishment of a
Bangladeshi bank branch in the Maldives, noting that such initiative would greatly benefit expatriate workers by providing them with secure, efficient,
and affordable banking services.
He made the remark when paid a visit to Bangladesh Bank and held an extensive meeting with a delegation led by Deputy Governor Md. Zakir Hossain Chowdhury
here, said a press release.
During the meeting, the High Commissioner discussed key issues related to financial connectivity and remittance facilitation for the large Bangladeshi
expatriate community living in the Maldives.
He particularly emphasised the long-standing demand for the establishment of a Bangladeshi bank branch in the Maldives for providing expatriate workers
with secure, efficient, and affordable banking services.
The Bangladesh Bank delegation appreciated the High Commissioner's valuable insights and assured that the central bank is actively engaging with relevant
public and private commercial banks to move this initiative forward. They expressed their commitment to strengthening financial access and remittance
services for Bangladeshi nationals abroad.
Following the meeting, high commissioner Islam spoke over the phone with Bangladesh Bank governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur to brief him on the discussions
and to emphasise the importance of taking early measures to establish a Bangladeshi bank branch in the Maldives.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing financial cooperation and promoting the welfare of Bangladeshi expatriates, in line
with the Government of Bangladesh's broad.
